I joined the Janney community during the 2009-2010 school year and have a Bachelor’s degree from Hunter College, part of the City University of New York, as well as a Master’s degree in Art History from George Washington University and a Master’s degree in Teaching with a focus on Early Childhood Education from Trinity Washington University. I began my teaching career at the Anglo-American School in Moscow while living in Russia from 2002 to 2007. When not in the classroom, I enjoy traveling, kayaking and spending time with my daughters, Emma and Maddie.
I believe that all children will be successful learners given the care, attention and resources they need, and that my responsibility as a teacher is to ensure that children in my care develop the traits that underpin academic success: curiosity, the willingness to accept challenges, the willingness to take risks and the ability to take an appropriate level of responsibility for his or her own learning. I am mindful of my responsibility for the social and emotional well being of my students as well. I strive to provide a safe, dynamic learning environment, as well as learning experiences that engage children with different cognitive, social, emotional and physical strengths and weaknesses. There is no single way to learn. I believe that educating children is a collaborative effort between school, home and the broader community. I am committed to open, constructive dialogue with parents and caregivers and I am passionate about maintaining a learning community that celebrates diversity and values acceptance.
